Lady Pirates finish 2-3 at MEAC Round-Up

Hampton opened the round robin by losing to North Carolina A&T in their first conference match of the season 3-0 (27-30, 21-30, 19-31) on Friday morning.
Sophomore middle hitter Ese Igehdosa (Kansas City, Mo. / Center Senior HS) led the charge for the Lady Pirates with a match-high nine kills and two blocks. Fellow sophomore hitter Morgan Williams (Duncanville, Texas/ Duncanville HS) added eight kills and six digs on defense.
The Lady Aggies were led by Avignon Williams who registered a team-high six kills.
HU defeated South Carolina State University in its second match of the day, 3-1 (30-20, 30-27, 17-30, 30-25) on Saturday afternoon. Three Lady Pirates recorded double-digits in kills, led by Williams with 15. Chavanca Hoskins (Dallas, Texas/ Lincoln HS) added 11 while Ighedosa chipped in with 10.
Sophomore Jasmin Elder (Upper Marlboro, Md./ Gwynn HS) had a match-high 38 assists, and Alyssa Jackson (Fort Wayne, Ind./ Snider HS) added a team-high eight digs.
Monique Walker headed the attack for the Lady Bulldogs with 15 kills and five digs.
Hampton University continued their winning ways by defeating Norfolk State in a close 3-2 win on Saturday afternoon. HU took the first game 31-29, but dropped the next two to fall behind 2-1. The Lady Pirates tied the match with a 30-27 win in the fourth game and clinched the win in game five, 15-9. Hampton again had three lady Pirates with a at least 10 kills. Hoskins led the way with 22 kills, while Williams added a double-double of 20 kills and 10 digs. Junior outside hitter Ebonie Vincent (Temecula, Calif./ UC-Riverside) had 10 kills and Elder handed out a match-high 46 assists.
The Spartans were led by Afreya Allen with 13 kills.
Hampton lost to Bethune-Cookman in its second match of the day, 3-1 (22-30, 19-30, 30-19, 17-30) on Saturday night. Morgan Williams had a match-high 15 kills to for the Lady Pirates.
The Pirates ended the round-up with 3-0 (15-30, 13-30, 14-30) loss to reigning MEAC champion Florida A&M on Sunday. The Rattler defense limited Hampton to a .050 attacking percentage with just 21 kills on 80 attacks. FAMU had two players in double figures headed by Maria Andonova with 22 and Marrita Crocket added 17 kills and 10 digs.
Hoskins led the Lady Pirates with nine kills and Jackson registered 10 digs.
Hampton will return to action on Oct. 21 versus Coppin State in Baltimore, Md. at 2 p.m.
